Hawaii, Maui or Kauai? Check the Beaches then Book a Resort or Hotel
Chances are it won’t be far to a good beach anywhere on Hawaii, but why settle for good when you could be sunbathing, swimming or surfing on one of the best beaches in the world just a few miles down the road? It might be as simple as choosing Maui (best island for beaches?) rather than Hawaii itself.
Read some Hawaii travel guides first. In the new edition of the Lonely Planet Hawaii travel guide, the list of Hawaii’s beaches is the longest single part of the index. From the Ahalanui Beach Park to the Whittington Beach Park, both on the Big Island, Lonely Planet lists almost 150 Hawaii beaches, beach parks and sandy bays.
HAWAII: FIVE OF THE BEST BEACHES
Here’s a list of five of the best beaches on Hawaii, in strictly alphabetical order. Bear in mind that all such lists are purely subjective, and this is five of the best Hawaii beaches, not the five best Hawaii beaches, but none of these top five beaches will disappoint
Hulopoe Beach on Lanai
This crescent of white sand is shared by locals and visitors, while the bay attracts dolphins too. Ideal if you stay at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai.
Kaanapali Beach near Lahaina on Maui
A busy resort beach with 3 miles of sand, always very busy but great for those who like to combine beach with action. There are Westin, Sheraton and Hyatt Regency resorts at Kaanapali.
Lumahai Beach on the North Shore of Kauai
The famous South Pacific beach, and every bit as beautiful as it looks in the movie. Great for sunbathing and photos, but not so good for swimming.
Punaluu Beach Park in Kau on Hawaii
Sea turtles always choose the best soft sandy beaches to lay their eggs, and the black sands of Punaluu attract them in numbers. Sunbathers should share the beach with them, respect their privacy, and stay away from the turtles and their nest sites. This beach is ideal if you want to visit the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park too.
Wailea Beach in South Maui
Last on the list only alphabetically, as Wailea was once chosen as the best beach in the USA. It’s hugely popular and busy, but great for sun worshippers, swimmers and snorkelers and there are Four Seasons, Marriott and the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel and Spa close by.
Hawaii really does have some of the best beaches in the world, so do check them out before booking that Hawaii hotel resort vacation.
